4. Lukewarm
or:   It can’t be less than everything

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Rev 3:14-22

So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, He will spue you out of His mouth, He will close the door for you. We do not seem to understand what lukewarm means in the sight of God. The pain of the Lord regarding the fact that we are neither hot nor cold is not a figure of speech. It is far preferable in the sight of God to be cold rather than lukewarm. It is terrible for us to remain lukewarm because the High Priest will spue us out of His mouth and without His intercession the open door of the heavenly Sanctuary will be shut forever and woe, woe unto us.

This very moment the angels are on a ceaseless race between Heaven and Earth. On the one hand, they are constantly ascending to heaven, bearing up the record of our life and on the other hand, they are presenting to our Lord our claims to the merits of the blood of the Lamb slain on the Calvary. What decision will there be taken in your case? It depends on you. The Comforter stands at the door and knocks and waits. He will have to adopt soon the same attitude as ours, that of the “closed door”, a door that no one, not even His love for us, will ever be able to open. You, son or daughter of His, if you hear His voice today, open to Him! He has got the greatest blessings in store for you, not only for now but also forever. Repent of your sins! Only the Lord is fully aware of your value. His love for you is an eternal one! Get hold of Him through faith and repent! Why would you want to die?

You are lukewarm and it is a serious thing in the sight of God and you will not see it. We mistakenly believe that being lukewarm means mingling God’s righteousness (the imputed one) with our own “righteousness”. That we do good and evil up to a certain point and then Christ takes over and wipes out the evil that we did (our drawbacks) and takes our good to completion and, eventually, we shall be the rewarded ones; then, out of kindness, we will give Him the glory. Well… this so-called “team work” between us, this combination between self and Him when I or He taking the lead in turns, is a fake! And why is that? Because such a thing was not accepted in Jesus’ case either. On looking at His life, we can see that He confided the race in the hand of the Father, and the Father only. According to the Scriptures and the way He taught His disciples for those three years and a half He lived with them, in His life there was not such thing as “Me and You, Father”, but “only You, Father”.

“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also.”
1Jo 14:9-12a

The same thing is being clearly shown by the teaching given to the rich young man who came and asked Him: “Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” The Lord, overwhelmed with sadness that he had not understood the essential principle of salvation, said: “There is none good but one, that is, God” (Mark 10:18). We might be shocked to hear such a reproachful answer from the One Who used to do good at every single step of His way, and as a consequence we might be wondering: “But who can be saved then?”

Jesus will not let us trouble for too long and answers to us, emphasizing in just a few words the very essence of every gesture, action, word of His life, pointing to His source of goodness and righteousness, His own source that should be ours as well: “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Luke 18:27).

When God’s word clearly states: “All your righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6), it does not refer to motivation (namely, if my motivation is a wrong one, then my actions are going to be defiled by it and consequently, if it is a good one, my actions are going to be good). This is just partly true, for in the next verse God makes reference to relationship, pointing out that His name is not called in our actions (“there is none that calleth upon thy name”, your character). We have been continually asleep and this state is equivalent to spiritual death, in the sense that we are cut off from Life, we have not laid our foundation on the Rock: “He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit [My fruit, Galatians 5:22,23, not his own fruit – sin, Isaiah 64:6]; for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).

“And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.”
Isa 64:7

The influence we exercise around us shows that we are either with Him or with Satan. The words addressed to Peter: “Get thee behind me, Satan [...] for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men” (Matthew 16:23) are valid for many of us. But the situation we are in, just like Peter's, is not helpless. Just like Peter back then, we swerve either to the right, or to the left. It is either the Lord, or the enemy that makes use of us, as a few moments before, inspired by the Holy Spirit, Peter had said: “You are the Christ!” (Matthew 16:16) and the Lord said to him: “Blessed are you, Simon [...] Peter [Gre. “Petros”] and on this rock [Gre. “petra”] I will build my church’ (Matthew 16:17-18). Peter's statement was made through a revelation (Matthew 16:17), a relationship with Heaven. And on this relationship (petra), since Peter had nothing in himself, Jesus was to build His church starting with the Day of Pentecost through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the One and only Leader of the Church.

When we see where the oscillation between being either with God, or without Him has brought Peter (this state of being neither hot, nor cold), we ought to be terrified. Therefore, we are still being told today, as we have but a few days of probation: “Today if you hear His voice, harden not your hearts!” (Hebrews 4:7) The words: “There is none good but one, that is, God” (Matthew 19:17) and “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Matthew 19:26) is the best possible news that the Gospel could ever convey to us. Through a relationship with such a God, Love, Almighty, anyone could be saved and still… many of us shall be swept out, shaken and found wanting. But how could that be?! “The answer is that “you are lukewarm [and if you do not awake and cleave to Life] I will spue you out of My mouth”.

What does it mean for you, Lord, to be lukewarm, so that I should know how to be hot? What should I do to be saved now, at “the end of the days”, before the coming of Your great and dreadful day?

“Then [Now] shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them [they have not taken their vessels with them!]: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not [the lack of a genuine relationship].” Mat 25:1-12

There is a close connection between the “Parable of the ten virgins” and the “Message of the True Witness”, between the wise virgins and to be hot, sealed – and the foolish virgins and the lukewam condition, spewed out of the mouth of the Lord. The ten virgins represent the Laodicean Church: five of them in the boil of the presence of the Holy Spirit and the other five in the lukewarm condition of sin. There is one, but fundamental difference between them: the foolish ones do not have “oil” and others have “oil in their vessels”.

With specific reference to the last generation, oil represents Christ’s righteousness, the imputed one. The vessel represents the Holy Spirit and the lamp – the man. He who has a vessel (the Holy Spirit from Christ – as a fulfilment of the words: “I will not leave you comfortless” – John 14:18) has oil, too (Christ’s imputed righteousness, bestowed in and upon him). Consequently, he who does not have a vessel, has no oil either; he has nothing but his own righteousness, just like a spotted garment, unaccepted by God. This is what the shaking is all about: those who have vessel (Holy Spirit) and therefore righteousness will stand; those who do not possess them will be swept out by angels (Matthew 13:30, 49-50).

The vessel (the Holy Spirit) is the channel through which Christ’s righteousness is being poured from the heavenly Sanctuary into the heart. This flow of Christ’s imputed righteousness anoints me, dwells in me, transforms me and cleanses me of all sin. Even more, due to the imputed righteousness, the Holy Spirit illuminates through me His fruit, imparted to those around “that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

The imparted righteousness, the one which illuminates through the man made righteous, is the one and the same that “comes down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17), meaning the imputed one which anointed me through the Holy Spirit. Righteousness is not something man-made, just as the light is not the product of the lamp, of the object, but of the oil poured from the vessel. The role of the man is one and one only: to let himself anointed, cleansed, sanctified. Christ said that “if any man hear My voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with Me” (and He is the One to offer, not the man who is poor and naked), privilege also mentioned through the words:

“If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him [through the Spirit] and make our abode with him.”
Joh 14:23

We are of our nature sons of sin (as Adam chose sin instead of Love). Sin is not something we do without God, but something we are in His absence. Just as God is love by nature, we are sin by nature. Our good works (“our righteousness”) are nothing in the sight of God but “filthy rags”, self-righteousness spotted with the blood of the Lamb, although we might consider it beautifully made out of the most precious cloth.

To be lukewarm in the sight of God means to illuminate our own oil, which might be made with toil and sweat, with gnashing of teeth, but still mixed with selfishness. Lukewarm does not mean that we do not illuminate. The accusation is that we illuminate our own light, on forgetting that “there is none good but one, that is, God”. All works, sacrifices, consecrations, our services without God are to be condemned, regardless of how good and solid our motivation might be.

You say in your “righteousness”: “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing” (Revelation 3:17); and you do not know that you are in fact… lukewarm! Our self-justification that we manifest more or less prevents God from offering His own righteousness, His own justification. When our lamp is full of ourselves, God will not pour anything through His Holy Spirit. He would if He could, but He cannot mingle His glory with anyone else's. He cannot see good mingled with evil, generally speaking, and even more, He will not mingle His own good with the evil of our “righteousness”, as His good (His glory) would destroy our oil (sin) and also the lamp (me) in the process. Therefore, our lukewarm state, the presence of personal “righteousness”, our own oil in the lamp deprives us of the greatest blessings.

“Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities [your oil, your righteousness] have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
Isa 59:1-2

Our self-righteousness made without Him, our own oil builds a wall between the vessel (the Holy Spirit) and the lamp (we). Much as the Vessel, the Holy Spirit might like to pour into the lamp, onto you, He cannot. His blessings which He plans to reach you, reach the wall and can get no further. This wall prevents Him from hearing us (Isaiah 59:1-2) and prevents us from hearing His voice (Revelation 3:20), from hearing His knocking on the door of our hearts, longing for an answer.

There is no worse state than that of lukewarmness. The light of the lukewarm, meaning your light, your splendid but spotted garment justifies your saying that you can see when you are actually blind (John 9:39). You are blind because of your own light, so blind that you can no longer see the Light.

“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light [righteousness] of life.“ ”He that believeth on him [not in the self] is not condemned: but he that believeth not [in Christ, but in his own self] is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness [their light] rather than light, because their deeds [“righteousness”] were evil. For every one that doeth evil [there is none good but one, God] hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”
Joh 8:12; 3:18-21

What should I do to be saved?

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh [sin] is flesh [sin]; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” Joh 3:5-8; 4:14,24

The Holy Spirit is symbolized by both water and wind. So that I should be filled with the Holy Spirit, I must be born again, I must repent, give up self, turn my face towards God, empty myself before Him. I must be emptied of myself, of my own oil. I must empty my lamp full of self-righteousness.

As I grow empty of myself, of my own oil, the wall that separated me from God vanishes like a cloud. As a consequence, there being no more oil left into my lamp, I become cold. On turning my eyes towards Him and His sacrifice, I come to acknowledge my condition of wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. My own light is continually going out and my lamp smokes, smells of incense and I cry out like Bartimaeus, the poor and blind beggar: “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:47) I cry again, even louder, just like the psalmist: “Have mercy upon me, O God!” (Psalms 51:1-10). And just like the blind man, you cast away your spotted garment, rise from your spiritual death, and come to Jesus.

“And he [...] came to Jesus. And Jesus [...] said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.”
Mar 10:50-52

There is a battle to fight, but not with sin. The blind man made no effort to see with his own eyes, as he knew it was impossible. He had been trying to do this his entire life, but could not. The battle to fight is the one with Jesus, a battle of having an immovable faith in Him, a battle in which I will not give up by letting Him go. It is the battle of making and maintaining a genuine relationship with Him. The very moment you touch Him through faith and He touches you back in response to your faith, you will be cured and will walk with Him just like the poor and blind beggar, seeing no other way worth following.

The same miraculous power, the same word, the same touch can enrich you with gold tried in the fire, polishing your lamp through the Holy Spirit; it can clothe you with white garments, refined and sanctified in His blood, so that the shame of your nakedness should not be seen. The garment of Jesus is a garment that firstly clothes you on the inside and then it clothes you on the outside, because our nakedness is primarily in the heart, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. He Himself will anoint your eyes so that you should see Him, the Rock of Salvation, and all these through the power and constancy of faith.

The work of emptying out of the lamp, the condition of being “cold” is also a work of the Holy Spirit accomplished within us with our consent. It is the former rain, meant to help the seed of the Gospel bear fruit in our souls. The filling of the lamp with righteousness out of the vessel of the Holy Spirit represents for the last generation the sealing of the latter rain, meant to grow up corn in the ear and bear fruit, two to one, five to other, as the One (the Holy Spirit) working the righteousness in us pleases. The birth is not and can never be the work of the one who is born, but of the One who can give birth.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Joh 1:12-13

“The religion of Christ means more than the forgiveness of sin; it means taking away our sins, and filling the vacuum with the graces of the Holy Spirit. It means divine illumination, rejoicing in God. It means a heart emptied of self, and blessed with the abiding presence of Christ. When Christ reigns in the soul, there is purity, freedom from sin. The glory, the fullness, the completeness of the gospel plan is fulfilled in the life. The acceptance of the Saviour brings a glow of perfect peace, perfect love, perfect assurance.”1

“The imputed righteousness of Christ means holiness, rectitude, purity. Unless Christ's righteousness is imputed to us we cannot have an acceptable repentance. This righteousness living in us through faith consists of love, patience, humility, all Christian virtues. Christ's righteousness is accepted and becomes a part of our being. All those who have this righteousness will do the works of God. […] The garment of Christ's righteousness in no way covers cultivated sins. No one can enter the feast of the Lamb's wedding, which is the righteousness of Christ.”2

“God will accept nothing less than unreserved surrender. Half-hearted, sinful Christians can never enter heaven. […] The true Christian keeps the windows of the soul open heavenward. He lives in fellowship with Christ. His will is conformed to the will of Christ. His highest desire is to become more and more Christlike.”3

“Christ, and Him sacrificed should be the object of our contemplation, of our speech and of our most pleasant feelings.”4

“Never will the human heart know happiness until it is submitted to be molded by the Spirit of God. The Spirit conforms the renewed soul to the model, Jesus Christ. Through its influence, enmity against God is changed into faith and love, and pride into humility. The soul perceives the beauty of truth, and Christ is honored in excellence and perfection of character.”5

“When we submit ourselves to Christ, the heart is united with His heart, the will is merged in His will, the mind becomes one with His mind, the thoughts are brought into captivity to Him; we live His life. This is what it means to be clothed with the garment of His righteousness.” “If we keep the Lord ever before us, allowing our hearts to go out in thanksgiving and praise to Him, we shall have a continual freshness in our religious life. Our prayers will take the form of a conversation with God as we would talk with a friend. He will speak His mysteries to us personally. Often there will come to us a sweet joyful sense of the presence of Jesus. Often our hearts will burn within us as He draws nigh to commune with us as He did with Enoch.”6

“We cannot use the Holy Spirit [the Vessel]. The Spirit is to use us. Through the Spirit God works in His people ‘to will and to do of His good pleasure’ (Philippians 2:13). But many will not submit to this. They want to manage themselves. This is why they do not receive the heavenly gift. Only to those who wait humbly upon God, who watch for His guidance and grace, is the Spirit given.”7

“Without the Spirit of God a proper understanding of His word is of no avail. The theory of truth, unaccompanied by the Holy Spirit, cannot quicken the soul or sanctify the heart. One may be familiar with the commands and promises of the Bible; but unless the Spirit of God sets the truth home, the character will not be transformed. Without the enlightenment of the Spirit, men will not be able to distinguish truth from error, and they will fall under the masterful deceits of Satan.

The class represented by the foolish virgins is not the one of the hypocrites. They have a regard for the truth, they have advocated the truth, they are attracted to those who believe the truth; but they have not yielded themselves to the Holy Spirit’s active work. They have not fallen upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and permitted their old nature to be broken up… This class has been content with a superficial work. They do not know God. This is the class that in time of peril are found crying: ‘Peace and safety!’ They lull their hearts into security, and dream not of danger. When startled from their lethargy, they discern their destitution [but it is too late], and entreat others to supply their lack; but in spiritual things no man can make up another’s deficiency. The grace of God has been freely offered to every soul. The message of the gospel has been heralded, ‘Let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely’ (Revelation 22:17). But character is not transferable. No man can believe for another. No man can receive the Spirit for another. No man can impart to another the character which is the fruit of the Spirit’s working. ‘Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it [the land], as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness’ (Ezekiel 14:20).

It is in a crisis that character is revealed. When the earnest voice proclaimed at midnight, ‘Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him,’ and the sleeping virgins were roused from their slumbers, it was seen who had made preparation for the event. Both parties were taken unawares; but one was prepared for the emergency, and the other was found without preparation. [...] The ten virgins are watching in the evening of this earth’s history. All claim to be Christians. All have a call, a name, a lamp, and all profess to be doing God’s service. All apparently wait for Christ’s appearing. But five are unready. Five will be found surprised, dismayed, outside the banquet hall. […]

Saddest of all words that ever fell on mortal ear are those words of doom, ‘I know you not.’ The fellowship of the Spirit, which you have slighted, could alone make you one with the joyous throng at the marriage feast. In that scene you cannot participate. Its light would fall on blinded eyes, its melody upon deaf ears. Its love and joy could awake no chord of gladness in the world-benumbed heart. You are shut out from heaven by your own unfitness for its companionship. […]

Through the Holy Spirit, God's word is a light as it becomes a transforming power in the life of the receiver. By implanting in their hearts the principles of His word, the Holy Spirit develops in men the attributes of God. The light of His glory – His character - is to shine forth in His followers. Thus they are to glorify God, to lighten the path to the Bridegroom's home, to the city of God, to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

The coming of the bridegroom was at midnight - the darkest hour. So the coming of Christ will take place in the darkest period of this earth’s history. […] It is the darkness of misapprehension of God that is enshrouding the world. Men are losing their knowledge of His character. It has been misunderstood and misinterpreted. At this time a message from God is to be proclaimed, a message illuminating in its influence and saving in its power. His character is to be made known. Into the darkness of the world is to be shed the light of His glory, the light of His goodness, mercy, and truth. This is the work outlined by the prophet Isaiah in the words, ‘O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him’ (Isaiah 40:9-10).

Those who wait for the Bridegroom’s coming are to say to the people, ‘Behold your God.’ The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love. The children of God are to manifest His glory. In their own life and character they are to reveal what the grace of God has done for them. The light of the Sun of Righteousness is to shine forth in good works - in words of truth and deeds of holiness [...] thus in the night of spiritual darkness God’s glory is to shine forth through His church in lifting up the bowed down and comforting those that mourn. […]

The message of hope and mercy is to be carried to the ends of the earth. Whosoever will, may reach forth and take hold of God's strength and make peace with Him, and he shall make peace. […] It is the love of God continually transferred to man that enables him to impart light. Into the hearts of all who are united to God by faith the golden oil of love flows freely, to shine out again in good works, in real, heartfelt service for God.

In the great and measureless gift of the Holy Spirit are contained all of heaven's resources. It is not because of any restriction on the part of God that the riches of His grace do not flow earthward to men. If all were willing to receive, all would become filled with His Spirit. It is the privilege of every soul to be a living channel through which God can communicate to the world the treasures of His grace, the unsearchable riches of Christ. There is nothing that Christ desires so much as agents who will represent to the world His Spirit and character. There is nothing that the world needs so much as the manifestation through humanity of the Saviour's love. All heaven is waiting for channels through which can be poured the holy oil to be a joy and blessing to human hearts. Christ has made every provision that His church shall be a transformed body, illumined with the Light of the world, possessing the glory of Emmanuel. It is His purpose that every Christian shall be surrounded with a spiritual atmosphere of light and peace. He desires that we shall reveal His own joy in our lives.

The indwelling of the Spirit will be shown by the outflowing of heavenly love. The divine fullness will flow through the consecrated human agent, to be given forth to others. Christ does not bid His followers strive to shine. He says, Let your light shine. If you have received the grace of God [Holy Spirit's changing power], the light is in you. Remove the obstructions, and the Lord's glory will be revealed. The light will shine forth to penetrate and dispel the darkness. You cannot help shining within the range of your influence.

The revelation of His own GLORY in the form of humanity will bring heaven so near to men that the beauty adorning the inner temple will be seen in every soul in whom the Saviour dwells. Men will be captivated by the GLORY of an abiding Christ. And in currents of praise and thanksgiving from the many souls thus won to God, glory will flow back to the great Giver.

‘Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.’ (Isaiah 60:1). To those who go out to meet the Bridegroom is this message given. Christ is coming with power and great glory. He is coming with His own glory and with the glory of the Father. He is coming with all the holy angels with Him. While all the world is plunged in darkness, there will be light in every dwelling of the saints. They will catch the first light of His second appearing. The unsullied light will shine from His [Holy Spirit’s] splendor, and Christ the Redeemer will be admired by all who have served Him. […] ‘Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not a stranger.’ (Job 19:27). To His faithful followers Christ has been a daily companion and familiar friend. They have lived in close contact, in constant communion with God. Upon them the glory of the Lord has risen. In them the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ has been reflected.”8

“Some wrote to me asking if the message of the righteousness by faith is the message of the third angel and I said: It is indeed the message of the third angel.” “The message of Christ's righteousness is to sound from one end of the earth to the other to prepare the way of the Lord. This is the glory of God, which closes the work of the third angel.” “I have been deeply impressed by scenes that have recently passed before me in the night season. There seemed to be a great movement - a work of revival - going forward in many places. Our people were moving into line, responding to God's call.” “The power which stirred the people so mightily in the 1844 movement will again be revealed. The third angel's message will go forth, not in whispered tones, but with a loud voice.”9

“And at midnight there was a cry made: “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments […] Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem […] Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.” “and the earth was lightened with his glory.” Isa 52:1-2,9-10; Rev 18:1
