9. Elijah will restore all things
or:   A gleam of hope in the night

“Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be treated with contempt. But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.” “Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.” “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.” Mar 9:12-13; Mat 13:52; Luk 12:42-44

All these words – uttered by the Father through His Son – are addressed to the last generation, judging by the context in which they were written. By these words we are given the opportunity to become fully aware of the importance of the time we live in, of God's expectations from us and of the things the Spirit is about to accomplish with us in His final work.

“And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be treated with contempt.” The context in which these words are uttered is the one referring to the coming of God's kingdom “with power” (Mark 9:1), a kingdom prefigured and represented in miniature by the presence of Moses and Elijah on the mount of transfiguration (Mark 9:2-10): Moses, as the representative of the risen saints and Elijah, as the representative of the translated ones. The latter, represented by Elijah, will fulfill the words: “Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God” as “neither can they die any more” (Mark 9:1, Luke 20:36). The statement above is, on the one hand, the answer given by the Father (through His Son) to the disciples' question: “Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?” (Matthew 9:11) and on the other hand, it is the answer of the same Father (through the Spirit) to the same question, but this time asked by the last generation: “Why do the Scriptures say that Elias truly shall first come?” Just as Jesus Christ came into this world as the Lamb to be sacrificed (Isaiah 53) and has prepared His entire earthly life to “suffer many things and be treated with contempt”, Elias must come first and restore all things through the work of the Holy Spirit.

“Therefore every scribe who is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.” These words have been uttered with specific reference to “the end of the world” (Matthew 13:49) when there will take place the separation of the just from the wicked (Matthew 13:41). The great householder (God) will then bring out of His storeroom (His Truth) old treasures (things already known and accepted) as well as new ones (not only new meanings of the same old things, but also new significations which have not been brought out of His storeroom before). What consequences will the actions of this Householder have? The seed forgotten and ignored for so long will spring through the Spirit, bear fruit and yield, “in one case a hundredfold, in other sixty, and in another thirty.” (Matthew 13:8,23), till the whole was leavened (Matthew 13:33) and “the grain of mustard seed”, “the least of all seeds” (Matthew 13:32) will be “the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.” (Matthew 11:32). This storeroom which will be opened at the end of time will reveal the treasure hidden for so long and for which no price is too high to pay (Matthew 13:44-45).

“Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath” – these words were written with strict reference to the watching the last generation should manifest, just like “men that wait for their lord [...] so that they may open unto him immediately” (Luke 12:36), regardless of the hour in which he (He) was to come (Luke 12:38). “If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20) is the invitation of the third angel's message (the faithful and wise steward's) addressed to all the people in the world to accept their portion of food NOW (at the proper time).

“Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.” Luk 14:31-32

God has looked from eternity to see if he will have enough soldiers that will be able to resist the army of the one (Satan) who will stand against Him, an army maybe twice as numerous as His. And He had foreseen them even before sin arose into the world. He took great delight in their approaching Him. He foresaw them carrying in their hands His weapons: faith, faithfulness, love and hope. He foresaw them overcoming sin by the blood of the Lamb; through His sacrifice, their hearts have been purified and refined. He has been longing ever since then to bless them with the fullness of His Holy Spirit:

“I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once [...] And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.”
Isa 42:14,16

Now is the moment when the angels, the entire world and the whole Universe will cry out in one voice:

“Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.”
Isa 44:23

We are now living the moments of the final and most decisive battle. All will awake from their sleep, and this revival of consciousness will change some people for the better and others for the worse. The mixture of good and evil, of light and darkness will be no more in the people's hearts. The Holy Spirit comes down today upon those who are counted worthy to attain that age, upon those who have emptied of self, thus overcoming sin by the blood of the Lamb. The other ones, those who have chosen to remain insensitive and indifferent to the voice of the Son of God, will not awake to everlasting life and will not be counted among God's sons and daughters. By manifesting disobedience to His voice, they will seal their death against Him by committing the sin against the Holy Spirit, the only unpardonable sin. They will awake to shame and everlasting contempt, receiving the unholy influence of Satan by willingly accepting to become his servants.

“Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.” “Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.” “Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.”
Isa 42:13,15,17

If all things have been confusing and ambiguous so far, from now on everything will be crystal clear. There will be two distinct and unmixable categories of people. “Either make the tree good, and his fruit good [the fruits of the Spirit]; or else make the tree corrupt [the filthy garment of sin]” (Matthew 12:33), so that nobody should falter between two opinions in choosing whom to worship. This unique situation in the history of sin will be the very fulfillment of the words:

Mal 3:18; Isa 3:10-11; Ecc 8:12-13

If people manifest the slightest intention to do well, it is through the Holy Spirit that they have it, by His active work. The actions of the ones who have chosen not to benefit from the influence of the Spirit of God will be low, mean, even diabolical. The Lord will separate once again the light from the darkness and His children will shine into the darkness of a world in ignorance of God, thus heralding the glorious appearing of the Son of Righteousness, in the middle of a world shrouded in wickedness and swamped into iniquity.

“Two great opposing powers are revealed in the last great battle. On one side stands the Creator of heaven and earth. All on His side bear His signet. They are obedient to His commands. On the other side stands the prince of darkness, with those who have chosen apostasy and rebellion.”1

“Clad in the armor of Christ's righteousness, the church is to enter upon her final conflict. ‘Fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners’ (Song of Solomon 6:10), she is to go forth into all the world, conquering and to conquer.”2

“When the earth is lighted with the glory of the angel of Revelation eighteen, the religious elements, good and evil, will awake from slumber, and the armies of the living God will take the field.”3

“They moved in exact order, like a company of soldiers. [...] I asked what had made this great change. An angel answered, ‘It is the latter rain, the refreshing from the presence of the Lord, the loud cry of the third angel.’ ”4

“To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”
Rev 2:17
